My Passions to Serve the Seniors

I have loved performing for senior citizens since a young age. I visited various senior centers either as a dancer with my friends in the CACC dance troupe or as a pianist with my mom's dance troupe. Seeing people smile and talking to people that have so much knowledge and wisdom to give are such valuable experiences that have truly shaped who I am as a person.

One very special experience was a performance during Covid-19, where I sang outside the building while the senior citizens listened to me through the windows of their rooms at the Rockland Senior Center.

Thanks to Grace Chen, my friend, and esteemed pianist, who shares the same passion for serving senior citizens. I would not be able to do all of the performances without her.

In honor of my grandma who passed away due to Covid-19, I would love to serve senior citizens living in nearby senior centers as often as possible and sing to them just as I would have sung to my grandma. I hope to cheer them up and bring a little ray of sunshine to their lives.

Due to the restriction of the pandemic, my friend and I performed outside of the building while the senior people were watching us behind the window. I sang a few classic songs, played a flute duet with my friend, and also sang a few pop songs with my ukulele. It was a unique experience that I'll never forget.

My brother and I chatted with the senior citizens after our performances. My brother played a couple of piano solos and I danced a few Chinese folk dances with the CACC Chinese folk dance troupe.

I was so happy to be able to bring some music and songs to the people with disabilities when I visited this center along with my mom's folk dance troupe. I was an MC for the program and I played piano solos and sang a few songs for them.
